KING'S COLLEGE'S REVISED PROPOSAL:
Demolish current buildings (and the 19th-century one next door)
How King's describe the changes:
'Updated elevations to the villas demonstrate a more refined and detailed module to the proposed glazed terracotta rainscreen cladding system introduding [sic] a delicate horizontal ‘grain’ and provides a more domestic and decorative appearance to the elevations.'
Note the use of language here: 'more refined', 'delicate', 'decorative'. These plans may be slightly less massive and heavy than the previous submission, but still do not harmonise with their surroundings or bear even the slightest reference to the Art Deco buildings they would replace.
Drawings of revised design proposal
This proposal is in stark contrast to the approach taken in the Archway Court development just down Barton Road, where an 18th-century house was saved, modern housing blocks added, in a pleasant and useful development.
We call on King's to respect our neighbourhood and the built environment and submit plans for refurbishment of the current buildings and addition of modern accommodation to the rear.
